what i did on the weekend/nesting...
something sooooooo exciting!! so when i moved into my house i inherited the most ghastly light fittings in the lounge and kitchen, you can see them in these photos..

side bar: my house looks soooo different now than in these pics - time for an updated home tour?
now i know those track lights are fairly standard for kitchens but i loathe them, and these ones are particularly ugly, the cross bars are wavy and the ceiling fixture bits look like a spaceships, ugh. and whatever possessed someone to install one in the CEILING ROSE in the lounge i'll never know! so i've been thinking about what i would put in the lounge for ages...even though i have a standard ceiling height for whatever reason the ceilings look really low to me, so it had to be something quite specific. in the end i decided i wanted some sort of chandelier and i was very lucky that mum and dad offered to buy me one for my birthday, this is the one they got me, from trade me...

i adore it, so pretty. so my next challenge was finding something for the kitchen to compliment this as they are all in the same open area. this was the hard part, i looked and looked and looooooked and finally found these, which i love, at freedom...

and that was just a really long way to tell you i went to freedom in hamilton on the weekend to buy the kitchen shades...and they only had one in stock...so i had to order them to be sent down from auckland...so hopefully they will arrive shortly...and i can get all three installed :)

what i'm making...
dum de de dum...its time for the chook hook reveal! to remind you this is what i started with...

and this is what i've ended with...

here they are side by side...

what do you think? i will list the former chook hook in my store at some stage. so on to the next, or as it turns out, several more projects. my sister has just cleaned out her garage and i grabbed several things which i'm going to take to with a paint brush...

the wooden frame with the heart cutout at the back is a quilt rack, there is a big wall coat rack which is from the early 2000s, its cool but the hooks are hideous. the white chest is cool and i probs won't do much to it as i like it as it is, it looks like its made of crappy wood in this photo but its actually a good solid piece. i'm most excited to make over the footstool - paint the legs, new padding on the top and cover with some pretty fabric :) the two cabinets are not from my sister, i've had the dark wood one for years and just want to put new shelves in it and maybe line the back, i can't bring myself to paint it as the wood is lovely. the other cabinet i'm thinking i will paint up as a first aid kit, inspired by salvage dealer kate kaemenas house...

more before and afters to come...better get cracking ;)

have a lovely week xxx
